**Hacker voice** I’m in (week 3 & 4
Alrighty so I actually started learning Khmer and its very challenging, but also so rewarding to be able to kind of think in a crazy squiggle code. The alphabet is basically mine already, and so now I working on all kinds of words and phrases. Next week they want us to have memorized all of basic core which is a document with pretty much enough khmer knowledge to talk to someone. Scary but I just gotta put together the words in the proper grammatical form so easy enough. Also next week is an appointment with a native Khmer speaker and me and my companion have to actually talk to her. Also scary, but I think it will be a great opportunity to develop my comprehension, and fluency.
Food
The food at the "western bar" is very hit or miss. I feel like its either edible or I can eat as much of it as I want without wanting to die.
However they also have something on the other side of the cafeteria they call the aloha plate. Chicken (or pulled pork or spam), rice, mac salad. A true classic. Splush some teriyaki sauce on there and boom, perfection every time. Also I caught a grasshopper
People
The sad thing about being with people is you always have to leave them. My good friend elder young was here, and so I got to see him. He was supposed to leave the day before I arrived at the mtc, but unfortunately for him, his peru visa was delayed, and so he got reassigned to LA. This is great because we got to hang out at the temple, and play pickle ball a few last time. I remained undefeated in 1v1 against him, but we did lose together against a squirrely pair of sisters in my district. Im currently 0-3 against them in various sports, but i've not yet fallen into despair. An elder in my district (pic of him in a garbage sack below) is like 6'6 and claims pickleball supremacy. I will recruit him to my vengeance team because as they say, when you can't succeed with skill, turn to genetic cheaters. Anyway Elder Young is gone, but he left me with a great inheritance of snacks and goodies. I have so much now its actually insane. Also a bunch of Japanese elders that lived next to me moved out, and they gave my room some nerf guns and a belt, so we hit each other with these things for fun.
Sister bumas also here so thats lit. Shes in a branch with the other half of my cambodian brothers, and so ye thats that. Alaska gang 4 life.
Speaking of alaskans Elder Degraw has arrived. I wanted to see him, and I did at the gym the very morning he arrived! What a baller man. He leaves next week :( so by my next email he'll likely be chillin with the wonderful people of Las Vegas.
Also I eagerly await the arrival of elder Morrill.
p days
I write this letter on my second p day early in the morning so I only had last week to go off, but it was so good. Lots of preparation. I'd forgotten how much of a tax that intense basketball places on my body. Also its not easy when playing against that 6'6 elder i mentioned before. His slong arms are everywhere and it feels bad when the ball flies across the court in the opposite direction of the hoop when I try to shoot.
Pickle ball ahuga,
Temple, so good as always. My district went at 5 am so that hurt my body but my spirit was edified.
Grasshopper\/
Also I picked up the cello/ viola, and I enjoy them quite a bit. The way the deep cello notes resonate is very pleasurable on the ears.
My teachers are so magnificent, ill discuss more about them later.
TLDR: I will survive, and thrive, god loves those who are diligent in becoming better.
សឹស្ដិ,
Elder Platt
